"Many graduates of prestige humanities programs find their way into publishing. No surprise, then, that very little 'diversity' exists in that rarified nexus in which literature meets politics."

It will be interesting to see whether the writing community is about to change that... ;)

I have been writing on the web since the 1990s; I wrote a few other things as far back as the 1970s. I have placed some of somme of my writings online over the years, including the Tales of Sugarmomma that I wrote during the early years of the Avalon East Pagan Gathering.

Right now as I write this paragraph it is November 2006 and my first attempt at a lengthy story, "The Faery Queen's Knickers", is still unfinished. My excuse for not finishing it has usually been that I could not recapture the particular mood that I had been in back when I started it. But maybe I shall complete it one day. Meanwhile, as of Halloween 2006, I have started a novel based in Halifax. It is a novel about Wiccans and Occultists, titled The Wyvern Street Irregulars. My intent so far has been to try to avoid straying into the realm of fantasy fiction, while still falling within the genre of occult fiction. Part of the motive for setting a novel in Halifax is that there is a local publisher that specialises in full novels that are set here. I found that out through a friend who is writing a Vampire novel set in Halifax. I would've like to write about Vampires myself actually, but I thought it best to pick a different topic, at least for something set here. It is still tempting to write something about Vampires, but presently I figure that if I did I should either base it elsewhere or wait and see how Heddy's novel or series develops then see if she would mind a collaborator. As I don't want to step on her toes as it were.

I have read quite a bit of occult fiction over the years, but I wanted to try to do something a little less extreme in the way of Hollywood special effects. Basically I am trying to portray the kind of pseudo-telepathy and synchronicity that I myself and various people I have worked with in the magick and spirituality field have noticed in real life. But this page is supposed to be about writing in general, I have a section in my personal home-directory for the Wyvern Street milieu.

I try to make notes about what parts of various websites I have been working on in my blog, titled Mark Metson's First Blog; my main collection of links to my writings other than actual websites is my writings directory.
